Scottish Obesity Alliance Chair steps down from role

28 July 2020

This week Elma Murray OBE steps down from her role as Chair of the Scottish Obesity Alliance.

Elma has had to step down due to a conflict of interest which has arisen through another area of her work.

Elma formally joined the Alliance as its inaugural chair in December 2019 with a clear commitment to creating supportive and enabling healthy weight environments for people and communities in Scotland. Since then she has provided expertise and direction to the Alliance in its formative period.

After launching with only 12 founding members in December 201, our membership now stands as 27. The Executive Group faithfully meet every quarter to manage and oversee delivery of the annual work plan which has been developed against an agreed set of policy priorities.

Elma has established and promoted the Alliance to create an effective force for policy change in Scotland. She has helped to build its profile to where it is now widely recognised as a unified, influential and independent voice for action to address our nation’s weight challenge.

We would like to thank Elma for her time, commitment and leadership over the last 18 months. You will be missed.

We also congratulate Elma on her recent appointment as interim chair at the Accounts Commission and ongoing success as Chair of Young Scot (Scotland’s youth information and citizenship charity) and Member of the SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College) Board.

The process of appointing a replacement chair for the Scottish Obesity Alliance is underway.
